Grief can follow the death of someone we love, but also the loss of a relationship, a home, a role, or a future we imagined. However it arrives, it is a natural response to loss.

Waves, not stages

Many people find that grief comes and goes. A good day can be followed by a hard one, sometimes without warning. This doesn’t mean you’re going backwards.

We don’t move on from grief. We learn to carry it differently.

Let others in

It can help to talk about the person or what was lost — to friends, a support group, or a therapist. You don’t have to make sense of everything on your own.

  • Allow mixed feelings — relief, anger and love can co-exist.

  • Keep small routines that steady you.

  • Reach out for extra support if grief feels unmanageable.
